You are probably wondering what in the heck a portable AC unit is? Basically, the IcyBreeze is a cooler that has been converted into a small AC unit. It takes the ice and water from the inside and blows out cold air.

Now you can stay cool at your child’s soccer game, or on your camping trip in the middle of the summer.

My husband, Clark and I, recently purchased one of these coolers and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.

How the Portable AC unit Works

The fill line doesn’t go up that high, this is after all the ice melted

When you open the lid to the IcyBreeze cooler you will see a fill line at the bottom. You will need to fill the bottom of the cooler with water to the fill line. Then, you can fill the rest with ice, beverages, and food.

After you have the cooler filled and the top closed you can now turn on the blower for the AC unit. You can set the blower to low, medium, or high speed (depending on how hot you are). The blower, AKA a fan, blows cold air up to 25 miles an hour and is able to blow air that is 35 degrees cooler than the air outside of the cooler.

There is a hose at the top of the cooler that you can point in any direction you please. So if you want to hog all that cool air… YOU CAN!

What is the Battery Life For the Portable AC unit?

There is a 10AH or a 6AH detachable battery option for the IcyBreeze cooler (sold separately on the official website).

The 10AH battery will last up to 6 hours on low, 4 hours on medium, and a little over 2 hours on high.

The 6 AH battery will last up to 4 hours on low, a little over 2 hours on medium, and a little over 1 hour on high.

Both of these batteries take up to five hours to fully charge.

You can also continuously have the unit running off of a wall or car power supply. These will need to be bought separately but are cheaper when they come in bundles. (check out the pricing in the next paragraph)

How much Does the Portable AC unit cost?

The base model is priced at 279.99 on IcyBreeze’s website, and that’s with no power supply.

There are several add-ons and different power supply sources you can choose from. Check out all the items you can add to the cooler at IcyBreeze. They even throw in a free battery charger if you purchase a battery.

If you purchase it from Amazon they only offer the 6 AH battery with the charger for 379.00. You can get about the same price on IcyBreeze with the same items. Give or take a few dollars for shipping.

Pros and cons of the Portable AC Unit

Pros

IcyBreeze is considerably cheaper than coolers like Yeti and still has more to offer than yeti, in our opinion.

It is the most portable AC unit that you can take just about anywhere.

The cooler doubles as an AC unit and a place to keep the drinks cold.

The ice should last up to 7 days in 90-degree weather (this is only if you are using it as a cooler and not as an AC unit.)

Cons

Not designed to cool down a small room. (however, it does fairly well with our insulated camper van, and several people have had success cooling down a room)

It’s Still a bit pricey and you have to pay more for separate attachments.

Does The Portable AC Unit Actually Work?

It’s really a matter of opinion on whether IcyBreeze works. In our opinion, it works pretty well! The cooler does exactly what the website says it does.

We have tested it out in a van we converted into a camper. We parked the van in the sun and it was almost 90 degrees outside and quite a bit hotter inside. The unit was set in the van on the high setting for about twenty minutes, and there was no temperature change. Like I said it wasn’t meant to cool down a room, and we really didn’t give it much time to do its magic.

Picture on the left was before we ran the cooler. Picture on the right was taken after two hours of running the unit.

The second time we tested it, the van was in the shade, and it was around 90 degrees yet again. We left the cooler in the van running on medium speed for about two hours and it cooled it down to 78 degrees. Now that is AMAZING!!

Other specs of the Portable AC Unit

There is a grip handle on the side and two wheels on the bottom that makes for easy transportation.

The inside of the cooler is 38 quarts and can hold up to 30 pounds of ice.

There are two cup holders on the top to make your day easier and more enjoyable.

How People go Wrong with the Portable AC Unit

There are several people that have given a negative review about the ice melting quickly. That’s because they are using small ice cubes.

Using the smaller ice cubes they melted this much within 3 hours of running the AC unit.

I’ll admit this is what we did at first, and yeah we were disappointed too. we read up on it some more and come to find out the small cubes were the wrong things to be using. You will have more success using bigger blocks of ice.

Conclusion

let me know if you have any questions, comments, or complaints about the IcyBreeze. I would love to hear your thoughts on the cooler. If you are interested in purchasing the Icybreeze go to Icybreeze.com and find a cooler that will save you from the heat.
